The 3rd grade students of our school, accompanied by nine of their teachers, went on a 4-day educational trip to the regions and attractions of Central Greece and the Peloponnese.

The time of the excursion:

On Saturday 09/03 they gathered with their teachers at the port of Heraklion, boarded the ship and left for Piraeus.

On Sunday 10/03, immediately after the arrival of the ship in Piraeus, they boarded the buses and departed for the region of Arachova, a mountainous town of Boeotia built on the southern slopes of Parnassos. After touring the area, they visited the "Clock" located on the rock called "Tyrias" and enjoyed the view of the area from above, while taking photos at the Arachova Bridge, which is a typical attraction. Afterwards, they had lunch and left for the archaeological site of Delphi, an ancient Greek city where the most important oracle of the ancient Greek world operated. They were guided to the archaeological site, saw up close the temple of Apollo and the ancient theater and, finally, visited the Delphi Museum where they had the opportunity to admire important exhibits, such as the statue of "Heniochus". Then, they departed for Nafpaktos, a seaside town of Aitoloakarnania in the Gulf of Corinth, where they made a short stop for a tour, before ending up in Patras, via the "Charilaos Trikoupis" bridge that connects Central Greece with the Peloponnese. In the evening they went out with their teachers for fun and food.

On Monday 11/03 they left Patras for Ancient Olympia, the most glorified sanctuary of Ancient Greece dedicated to Zeus and venue of the ancient Olympic Games. They were guided to the archaeological site and toured the ancient stadium with their teachers. Then, they had lunch in the area and left for Patras. In the evening, after having dinner, they went out for fun and sightseeing in the city of Patras.

On Tuesday 12/03 they left for the area of Kalavryta, a mountain town in the Prefecture of Achaia, built at the foot of the Aroanian Mountains (Chelmos) at an altitude of approximately 735 meters. During the route they made a short stop at the monastery of Agia Lavra, a historic monastery in Kalavryta, one of the oldest monasteries in Greece and especially in the Peloponnesian area, known as the starting point of the Greek Revolution according to some. Then, they headed to Kalavryta, where they had time to tour the area and visit the "Municipal Museum of the Kalavryta Holocaust". Afterwards, they visited the "Sacrifice Site", a monument on the hill of Kapi, located east of the town of Kalavryta, where the men from the age of 14 and above were taken by the German invaders on December 13, 1943, where they were executed. Afterwards, they stopped at the monastery of the Mega Cave, had lunch in the area and departed for Patras, where they had free time to tour the city. In the evening they went out for dinner and entertainment with their teachers.

On Wednesday 13/03 they left for the city of Nafplio, the first capital of Greece, where they had free time to tour the city. There they had the opportunity to admire historical sights of the city, such as Palamidi, Bourtzi, the first Government-Parliament and the church of Agios Spyridon, outside which Ioannis Kapodistrias was stabbed and to tour the old city and Syntagma Square. After having lunch, they made their way back to Piraeus, where they boarded the ship and departed for Heraklion.

Our students, therefore, had the opportunity during the excursion to visit areas and monuments of our country, of unparalleled natural beauty with archaeological, and not only, interest, creating strong memories that were the occasion of knowledge, feelings and experiences for them, the which will accompany them throughout their lives. At the same time, they took a very pleasant break from the school routine, they got closer to their classmates and teachers, which helped to further strengthen their relationships. Although the main purpose of the excursion was educational, our students also had the opportunity to have fun, to live exciting experiences, such as living with their classmates, visiting new places, traveling by boat and also getting in touch with the local cuisine of the regions visited.
