From the 1st of September 2024, our school participates as a member of a short-term school partnership, in the framework of the Erasmus+ KA210 school education projects entitledSee your sea benefits" and code 2024-1-HR01-KA210-SCH-000244822.
The school leading the partnership is Osnovna skola Jurja Sizgorica in Croatia and the other members are Agrupamento de Escolas de Vilela in Portugal and 2IIS A-Ruiz in Italy.
The European project emphasises on development of:
-Communication skills, teamwork and cooperation, adaptability, problem solving, as well as organisation and time management
– - Green skills
– -Awareness of the environment and the fight against climate change;
- Physical and mental health, well-being
The objectives of the partnership are to acquire knowledge and skills to improve the quality of human life through contact with nature and with full respect for the environment and the planet, to adopt environmentally friendly habits and to develop practices that contribute to the sustainability of marine ecosystems. In addition to teachers, 12 students from each school aged 12-16 years will participate in the programme.
The programme will run from 1st ofst September 2024 to 31 August 2026.
According to the approved funding, a total of 4 mobilities will take place:
- the 1st at Agrupamento de Escolas de Vilela in Paredes of Portugal in November 2024, where the 1st international study session will take place where students and teachers will meet
- the 2nd at 2IIS A-Ruiz in Italy Augusta in Italy in May 2025 for the 2nd international study session
- the 3rd at the 13th High School of Heraklion in October 2025 for the 3rd international study session
- the 4th at Osnovna skola Jurja Sizgorica in Sibenik Croatia in May 2026 for the 4th and last study session between students and teachers.
FIRST MEETING OF THE ERASMUS+ PROGRAMME "SEE YOUR SEA BENEFITS" IN PORTUGAL
In the framework of the European program Erasmus+ titled “See your Sea Benefits” (code 2024-1-HR01-KA210-SCH-000244822), a team consisting of 2 teachers and 4 students of the 13th Gymnasium of Heraklion travelled to Paredes of Portugal from the 4th to the 7th of November. During the meeting “Reading your Sea”, they worked with partners from Portugal, Croatia and Sicily.During their stay, the participants visited schools in the region, learning new teaching methods, and took part in activities that highlighted the importance of the wet element in our lives and mental health. Using apps such as iNaturalist and Wikiloc and through interactive games such as Kahootstudents learned about Portugal's rich flora, fauna and cultural heritage.
In addition, they visited the Atlantic Ocean coast, monuments, museums and aquariums such as Sea Life Porto and Water Pavilion Portoand learned about sustainable fishing techniques. They even created musical instruments from recyclable materials inspired by the sounds of the sea.
Participation in the project provided valuable knowledge, developed communication and cooperation skills, as well as awareness of environmental, mental health and well-being issues. The participants committed to bring their experiences back to their school and to continue working with the partners until the next meeting, which will take place in May in Augusta Sicily.
2nd INTERNATIONAL MEETING OF ERASMUS+ PROJECT "SEE YOUR SEA BENEFITS" IN ITALY
During the week 19-23 May 2025, four students and two teachers of the 13thου Gymnasium of Heraklion traveled to the city Augusta in Sicily Italy, as part of the ERASMUS+ programme ERASMUS+ “SEE YOUR SEA BENEFITS”where the 2ndst transnational meeting of the European project took place.
Specifically, according to the itinerary of the trip, on Monday 19th May the Greek students and teachers met with the European partners from schools in Italy, Portugal and Croatia and visited the city of Syracuse. There, they attended educational activities in the natural reserve of Plemmirio, played getting-to-know-you games and explored the Italian city.
On Tuesday 20th May, the educational activities continued at the Italian school I.I.S “Arangio Ruiz” in Augusta, where the participating students presented their projects, played educational quizzes, made posters on the circular economy and expressed themselves through artistic creations.
On Wednesday 2th May, a visit to the city of Catania was held, where sailing and dolphin watching guided by marine biologists was planned. It was a once in a lifetime experience for all participants, as the contact with the sea and the sight of dolphins swimming and playing with the water, fulfilled to the fullest the aim of the project, which is the beneficial properties of the sea on the mindfulness of man. Finally, there was a tour through the city and a visit to the Roman theatre (Anfiteatro Romano) of Catania.
On Thursday 22th of May the week of hospitality ended with a visit to the monastery of Madonna Adonai di Augusta, where yoga exercises were taught, as a means to clear the mind, help concentration and fight stress. This was followed by a swim on the beautiful beach of the monastery, a farewell party with food and the awarding of certificates of attendance.
On Friday 23 May, students and teachers returned to Heraklion, renewing the appointment with the European partners for October, when the 13thο Gymnasium of Heraklion will take on the role of host and implementation of the activities for the 3rdst transnational meeting of "SEE YOUR SEA BENEFITS" project.
3rd INTERNATIONAL MEETING OF ERASMUS+ PROJECT "SEE YOUR SEA BENEFITS" IN HERAKLION
Our school gladly hosted delegations from Croatia, Italy and Portugal from October 6th to 9th as part of the Erasmus+ KA210 project “See your Sea Benefits”.
The programme included participation in school lessons and experiments, marine biology workshops, cultural visits to landmarks such as Knossos and the Koule Fortress and HCMR, Cretaquarium, the Natural History Museum, as well as environmental awareness and sea mindfulness activities at the Almyros River and Ammoudara beach.
The cooperation between students and teachers was outstanding, and strong bonds of friendship, respect and mutual understanding were developed. The hospitality offered by the host families played a key role in intercultural exchange and meaningful connection.
4η ΔΙΑΚΡΑΤΙΚΗ ΣΥΝΑΝΤΗΣΗ ΚΑΙ ΟΛΟΚΛΗΡΩΣΗ ΤΟΥ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΟΣ ERASMUS+ “SEE YOUR SEA BENEFITS” ΣΤΟ SIBENIK ΤΗΣ ΚΡΟΑΤΙΑΣ
Με τις αποσκευές γεμάτες μοναδικές εμπειρίες, νέες φιλίες και πολύτιμες γνώσεις επέστρεψε η ομάδα Erasmus+ του 13ου Γυμνασίου Ηρακλείου από το Šibenik Croatia. Από τις 16 έως τις 22 Μαΐου 2026, 4 μαθητές και οι συνοδοί καθηγητές του σχολείου μας συμμετείχαν στην τελευταία και καταληκτική κινητικότητα του ευρωπαϊκού προγράμματος KA210-SCH “See you SEA benefits!”, το οποίο συντονίζει το σχολείο Osnovna škola Jurja Šižgorića, με βασικό θεματικό άξονα αυτής της συνάντησης το «Blue Gym».
Η φιλοσοφία του Blue Gym εστιάζει στην αξιοποίηση του θαλάσσιου περιβάλλοντος ως ενός φυσικού, υπαίθριου γυμναστηρίου, αποδεικνύοντας πόσο ευεργετική είναι η σωματική δραστηριότητα κοντά ή μέσα στο νερό για την εκτόνωση του στρες, τη βελτίωση της φυσικής κατάστασης και την ψυχική ισορροπία των εφήβων. Οι μαθητές μας, σε συνεργασία με συνομήλικούς τους από την Κροατία, την Ιταλία και την Πορτογαλία, συμμετείχαν σε ένα δυναμικό πρόγραμμα δράσεων που μετέφερε τη «μάθηση» έξω από τις σχολικές αίθουσες, απευθείας στη φύση.
Το πλούσιο πρόγραμμα δραστηριοτήτων περιλάμβανε:
- Βιωματικά εργαστήρια και παρουσιάσεις παραδοσιακών παιχνιδιών της θάλασσας στην παραλία Banj, όπου οι μαθητές γυμνάστηκαν, γέλασαν και συνεργάστηκαν στην άμμο.
- Θαλάσσιες δραστηριότητες και παιχνίδια στο πανέμορφο νησί Zlarin, αναδεικνύοντας τη θάλασσα ως πηγή ζωής και ευεξίας.
- Ενεργητική πεζοπορία (Eco-hiking) στο μοναδικό παραθαλάσσιο κανάλι του Αγίου Αντωνίου (St. Anthony’s Channel) και στο Εθνικό Πάρκο Krka, συνδυάζοντας την αερόβια άσκηση με την επαφή με τη μοναδική βιοποικιλότητα των υδάτινων οικοσυστημάτων.
Η αυλαία του προγράμματος έπεσε με τον πιο ιδανικό τρόπο, επιβεβαιώνοντας τη θετική ενέργεια όλης της εβδομάδας. Στην τελετή αποχαιρετισμού, πραγματοποιήθηκε ένα μεγάλο παραθαλάσσιο πάρτι στην παραλία, όπου το κλίμα συγκίνησης μετατράπηκε σε μια γιορτή ενότητας. Μαθητές και καθηγητές από όλες τις χώρες έγιναν μια αγκαλιά, τραγουδώντας και χορεύοντας παραδοσιακά και σύγχρονα τραγούδια από τις τέσσερις πατρίδες, αποδεικνύοντας ότι η μουσική και η φιλία δεν γνωρίζουν σύνορα.
Με την ολοκλήρωση αυτής της κινητικότητας κλείνει με τον πιο όμορφο τρόπο ένας κύκλος δημιουργίας, εξωστρέφειας και ευρωπαϊκής συνεργασίας για το σχολείο μας. Θερμά συγχαρητήρια στους μαθητές μας για την άψογη εκπροσώπηση και στους εκπαιδευτικούς που στήριξαν αυτή την προσπάθεια!
