If we don't learn to change the way we think, we won't be able to solve the problems we create because of the way we think

From the 1st of September 2024, our school participates as a member of a short-term school partnership, in the framework of the Erasmus+ KA210 school education projects entitledSee your sea benefits" and code 2024-1-HR01-KA210-SCH-000244822.

The school leading the partnership is Osnovna skola Jurja Sizgorica in Croatia and the other members are Agrupamento de Escolas de Vilela in Portugal and 2IIS A-Ruiz in Italy.

The European project emphasises on development of:

 -Communication skills, teamwork and cooperation, adaptability, problem solving, as well as organisation and time management

- Green skills

-Awareness of the environment and the fight against climate change;

- Physical and mental health, well-being

The objectives of the partnership are to acquire knowledge and skills to improve the quality of human life through contact with nature and with full respect for the environment and the planet, to adopt environmentally friendly habits and to develop practices that contribute to the sustainability of marine ecosystems. In addition to teachers, 12 students from each school aged 12-16 years will participate in the programme.

The programme will run from 1st ofst September 2024 to 31 August 2026.

According to the approved funding, a total of 4 mobilities will take place: 

  • the 1st at Agrupamento de Escolas de Vilela in Paredes of Portugal in November 2024, where the 1st international study session will take place where students and teachers will meet
  • the 2nd at 2IIS A-Ruiz in Italy  Augusta in Italy in May 2025 for the 2nd international study session
  • the 3rd at the 13th High School of Heraklion in October 2025 for the 3rd international study session
  • the 4th at Osnovna skola Jurja Sizgorica in Sibenik Croatia in May 2026 for the 4th and last study session between students and teachers.

FIRST MEETING OF THE ERASMUS+ PROGRAMME "SEE YOUR SEA BENEFITS" IN PORTUGAL

In the framework of the European program Erasmus+ titled See your Sea Benefits (code 2024-1-HR01-KA210-SCH-000244822), a team consisting of 2 teachers and 4 students of the 13th Gymnasium of Heraklion travelled to Paredes of Portugal from the 4th to the 7th of November. During the meeting Reading your Sea, they worked with partners from Portugal, Croatia and Sicily.During their stay, the participants visited schools in the region, learning new teaching methods, and took part in activities that highlighted the importance of the wet element in our lives and mental health. Using apps such as iNaturalist and Wikiloc and through interactive games such as Kahootstudents learned about Portugal's rich flora, fauna and cultural heritage.

In addition, they visited the Atlantic Ocean coast, monuments, museums and aquariums such as Sea Life Porto and Water Pavilion Portoand learned about sustainable fishing techniques. They even created musical instruments from recyclable materials inspired by the sounds of the sea.

Participation in the project provided valuable knowledge, developed communication and cooperation skills, as well as awareness of environmental, mental health and well-being issues. The participants committed to bring their experiences back to their school and to continue working with the partners until the next meeting, which will take place in May in Augusta Sicily.
