If we don't learn to change the way we think, we won't be able to solve the problems we create because of the way we think

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, the educational speech of K. Plexousakis Michael, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics of the University of Crete, was held with great success. The speech, entitled "Mathematics and Sailing", was addressed to the students of the 3rd Gymnasium, who had the opportunity to learn about the practical application of mathematics and natural sciences through the fascinating world of sailing.

The presentation combined theoretical concepts with practical examples, highlighting how mathematics and physics coexist in the design, navigation and dynamics of sailing. Mr. Plexousakis, with contagiousness, inspired the students to perceive mathematics not as an abstract discipline, but as a tool for understanding and interpreting the natural world.

The event was a unique example of an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge and strengthened the connection between school education and reality, while cultivating the scientific thinking and critical thinking skills of students.
