A beautiful "journey" full of challenges, experiences and knowledge has come to an end, but we will continue to implement what we have learned and pass on the knowledge and good practices for environmental protection to our students.
These last years we were working in this Erasmus KA210 European project titled "Facing and dealing with climate change" with schools from Spain, that was the coordinator, Serbia, Romania and Lithuania. In the context of this project many actions were carried out for the adoption of best practices in the management of environmental issues related to sustainable, green development and sustainability. Indicatively, we mention some of our actions:
-From the previous school year, the students participated in various online meetings with the other partners and were informed about topics such as bioethics, biodiversity, rare endangered species and the human factor behind climate change.
- Recycling bins supplied by the Cleaning and Recycling Service of the Municipality of Heraklion were installed and beautified by the students themselves in various parts of the school and after informing the entire school community, we succeeded in raising their awareness by significantly increasing the volume of recyclable waste.
– A very important stage during the implementation of our project was the creation of a school garden, artistic constructions with recyclable materials and the informing of groups of students about recycling and environmental issues
– The culmination of the actions was the meeting of all partners and students in Brussels, where we completed our actions. We visited the Museum of Natural History and were informed about biodiversity, the Museum of European History where we learned about important points of European history and common European principles and values and finally we visited the European Parliament, where we presented our proposals for interventions on the topic of the climate crisis, we were informed about the institutions and we got to know MEPs up close, who spoke to us about green development and the action of the European institutions in order to ensure a better future for the planet and people.
Our goal through all these actions is to create a sustainable, green, ecological school with a reduced ecological footprint and respect to people. The establishment and implementation of Environment Day at our school aims in this direction too.
